Enzyme Therapy

What to expect: before, during, and after enzyme therapy

If you're considering DMK Enzyme Therapy to help improve your skin, there are a few things you should know before you
book your first treatment. Here's what you can expect before, during, and after your enzyme therapy facial.

What is Enzyme Therapy?

Enzyme Therapy is a results-based facial treatment that utilizes plant-based enzymes to exfoliate dead skin cells and promote
healing and generation of new skin cells. Our DMK Enzyme Therapy is typically performed in a series of 6 treatments, ideally undertaken weekly, or fortnightly for those with acne (so as to not overstimulate the skin!). Typically, six treatments are all that is necessary to see great results.

During each 45-minute treatment, the enzymes are applied to the face, neck, and shoulders (from armpit to armpit). Our enzyme treatments are activated in the room, meaning you’ll get the most potent benefits from them. Because of DMK’s exclusive formula, this particular enzyme therapy facial helps your skin develop its own natural enzymes, giving you longer-lasting results.

DMK’s signature enzyme therapy creates a process called ‘reverse osmosis’, which helps to flush out toxins from the skin, whilst encouraging blood circulation bringing fresh oxygen to the area and improving lymphatic drainage, for optimal skin function.

Benefits of Enzyme Therapy

The benefits of DMK Enzyme Therapy include softer, smoother skin, reduced fine lines, and improved skin tone. Because of its
gentle nature, and the varied enzyme treatments available, DMK enzyme therapy facials are used to revise many conditions, including acne, signs of aging, impaired or over-sensitive skin, sun damage, psoriasis, eczema, and rosacea, by re-training the skin to perform in an optimal way. In addition to the improved look and feel of your skin post-treatment, enzyme therapy works to revise your skin at a cellular level too.

Some of the underlying benefits, that help produce a longer-lasting result include:

  • Brightened skin thanks to the enzymes at work in your facial, fresh blood, oxygen, and nutrients are pumped to the area, giving your skin a brighter, more hydrated complexion.

  • Detoxification - a crucial part of enzyme therapy is its link with the lymphatic system to stimulate detoxification. This helps get rid of dead skin cells, and toxins built up in your skin, leaving it fresher and cleaner than ever.

  • A stronger skin barrier - enzyme therapy strengthens both your facial muscles and the structural makeup of your skin, producing a stronger skin barrier (which contributes to your overall health) to help ensure a healthy environment for your cells.

  • Skin tightening - as part of the effect of enzyme therapy, collagen production is enhanced. Collagen plays an important part in the tone and structure of your skin and helps reduce early signs of aging.

Preparing for Enzyme Therapy

Enzyme therapy is considered a safe and gentle procedure, and the reason why so many people love our enzyme treatments
is that it doesn’t take much preparation time or downtime post-treatment.

That being said, there are a few things you can do to ensure that you’re getting the maximum results from your treatment:

  • If possible, try not to wear makeup in the 24-48 hours before your treatments, this will
help ensure your pores are as clean as possible and help the enzyme work effectively.

  • Stay out of the sun, including tanning beds, in the 24 hours prior to treatment,
so that the enzymes aren’t damaged when applied to your skin.

  • Ensure you don’t have any open wounds or sunburn on the treatment areas
as these may become more inflamed as a result of the enzyme activity.

Prior to booking your Enzyme Therapy treatments, it’s important that you visit our clinic for a detailed skin analysis. The particular enzyme mask that is applied will depend on your skin type and condition, therefore we always start with a detailed analysis to
get to know your skin’s unique personality, performed by one of our qualified and professional skin therapists.

In your skin analysis appointment, be sure to let your therapist know if you suffer from any anxiety. As the enzymes are applied
from your upper chest, to your hairline and set hard, this treatment may not be suitable for persons who suffer from anxiety or claustrophobia.

During your Treatment

Whilst your Enzyme Therapy is taking place, you can lay back and relax on one of our lush massage tables. Your therapist will stay in the room with you for the duration of your treatment, and it’s a great way to get in some extra pampering with a MediPedi or hot paraffin hand/foot treatment, while the enzymes work their magic.

Your therapist will activate the enzymes in the room and apply them to your face, neck, and décolletage.

During the 45 minutes of your treatment, you’ll feel a small pulsing sensation – this is the effect of the enzymes at work
as they help circulate blood and oxygen through your cells.

Over the course of your treatment, the mask will set hard like concrete, and you may feel some downward pressure.
It’s for this reason we’ll always have someone in the room with you – and we suggest you opt for a transdermal facial if you
suffer from anxiety.
